Vista Is Black Hat’s VIP

No matter how Windows Vista is labeled, the latest operating system from Microsoft is under the spot light at this year Black Hat white-hackers convention in Las Vegas.
Security solutions provider Symantec enabled Applied Research-West to conduct a
survey among the participants at the conference in order to highlight the public’s general tendencies. In this context, Applied Research-West performed a study on the Black Hat conference attendees and revealed that Windows Vista is in the center of attention, with more than half of the interviewed participants planning to review the Vista platform. While 55% of attendees are keen to review Microsoft’s OS, another consistent percentage of 46% plan to conduct researches on the application’s services and libraries.

From the mass of 400 respondents to the poll, the vast majority expressed their concerns regarding computer security, 67% expressing concerns regarding Windows XP vulnerabilities, while only 12% claimed similar issues related to the Mac OS platforms. In the same area of vulnerabilities respondents stated that business systems also raised security issues. Databases, back-up systems, managerial software, infrastructure networking technology and client applications, all attracted comments related to security.
Web based applications involved in services delivered via the Internet through the use of open standards, mobile technologies and VoIP also found their way onto the study’s metrics but with smaller audience backing.
